GloPoWriMo/NaPoWriMo Day 2: What Would A Squirrel Do?

Today’s prompt is to write a poem that similarly resists closure by ending on a question, inviting the reader to continue the process of reading (and, in some ways, writing) the poem even after the poem ends. This evening I saw a squirrel climbing a tree and I thought, “What if you set off to climb a tree and got a mountain instead?”

Climb.
Further up.
Almost there.

Heave.
One more step.
Take another.
And another.

Sigh.
It’s not a tree.
Downhill I go.

Run.
Two steps.
Three steps.
Into murky world.

Thrive.
One stroke.
Two strokes.
Stuck in a water mill.

What would a squirrel do?
