GloPoWriMo/NaPoWriMo Early-Bird: Self-Portrait as Ares

Today’s early-bird prompt is to write a poetic self-portrait in the guise of a historical or mythical figure. This is a self-portrait as Ares, God of War.

I caused chaos and rupture
to the wisest and kindest
of times long gone, where
gods and goddesses dwelled.

Tearing and splitting,
avenging and revenging,
the war in others body fields,
promised insatiable victory.

Does it surprise you too
that I could bear children
of harmony from my battles?

Lest you forget, I loved
and infected courage
to your warrior women.

Remember and evoke me
amongst the fields of poppies.
I will be there watching—
the vulture of your damage.
